Management structure

The Leiden Institute of Physics has fully integrated management responsibilities. It is headed by the Scientific Director (SD) who is accountable to the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (in the following referred to as the faculty). He is assisted by the Institute Manager (IM).
The SD communicates with the Dean and the SD’s of the other institutes in the faculty, he chairs the institute’s committees and councils, concentrating on the science and personnel related tasks.
The IM is concerned with issues of financial control, and administrative and technical support. He regularly communicates with the Management Director of the faculty.
The Teaching Program Director (TPD) is responsible for the organisation and quality control of the physics teaching, and represents the institute in the meeting of TPD’s which is chaired by the portfolio holder for education of the faculty.

The SD is advised by the Coordination Team (CT) which is formed by the chairs of the four research domains representing the four research programs within LION as given in the organization chart, and the TPD. The CT meets every six weeks.

INSTITUTE COUNCIL
There is an Institute Council in which the various categories of the institute staff are represented. The Councel meets two times per year, regular points of discussion are the working environment, safety conditions and regulations, social and cultural affairs regarding the whole institute.
