ESCHER Kickoff Workshop

Date:         16 and 17 October 2008
Host:         LION (Leids Instituut voor onderzoek in de Natuurkunde)
Location:  Leiden, The Netherlands

Escher is a new state-of-the-art spectroscopic LEEM/PEEM facility that will be developed at Leiden University. It was recently funded by the Dutch NWO-Groot Program. This instrument will feature aberration-corrected optics with < 2 nm spatial resolution, energy filtered spectroscopic real space imaging, full 3D k-space electron spectroscopy, on sub-micron length scales, and a 10-1800 K operating range. The science program will address issues in molecular and organic electronics, transport physics, surface, thin film, and interface science, novel materials, and exploratory bioscience.

This workshop will bring together the participants in the Escher program and scientists from a range of disciplines that may benefit from the successful development and operation of this new and unique microscope facility, within the context of related and complimentary facilities. The goal of the workshop is to get acquainted with each other’s research interests and with the possibilities that ESCHER will bring. We aim for a creative, open and inspiring workshop to give ESCHER a fruitful start.

We look forward to seeing you in Leiden in October,
