Your application letter should include a CV, a publication list, a motivation, and the names of 3 referees who are willing to write a recommendation. For applicants to any PhD or postdoc position we require:

  • A solid experimental background in modern optics. For PhD candidates this boils down to "How much time did you actually spend in the laboratory?" and "Which experiments did you perform?"
  • A good conceptual knowledge of the theory involved. Are you attracted to key fundamental issues in optics?
  • A sufficient knowledge of the English language to ensure good oral and written communication. This is most easily judged from official certificates such as TOEFL.
  • Excellent ratings in courses at university level physics.
